What's UCI's average GPA?

Hey everyone! I've been putting a lot of thought into where I want to apply for college and UCI has consistently been on my list. I've heard the competition is pretty intense, so I'm just wondering - does anyone know what the average GPA of admitted students at UCI is? Would really appreciate some insight!

The University of California, Irvine (UCI) is indeed a competitive institution with a rigorous academic atmosphere. According to the latest reports, the average high school GPA of the admitted freshman class at UCI is around 4.2 on the weighted scale, which takes into account honors and advanced placement courses.

This average encompasses a wide range of GPAs given the size of UCI's incoming class and the diversity of its applicant pool, so don't be disheartened if your GPA is not quite in this range. A lower GPA may be offset by other aspects of your profile, such as strong test scores, robust involvement in extracurricular activities, or an outstanding application essay. Remember that admission decisions are not solely based on GPA, but rather a holistic evaluation of your entire application package.

Do keep in mind that UCI, like all UC schools, does not use a simple 4.0 scale, but a capped weighted GPA scale. This means that while AP and IB courses are weighted, only a maximum of 8 semesters — no more than 4 from the 10th grade — of approved honors level courses can be counted for GPA calculation.

Work on keeping your GPA as high as you can, but also focus on other aspects of your application to show a well-rounded and comprehensive profile. Good luck with your college application journey!
