Info on NCAA Division I Teams?

Hi guys, I'm a student athlete trying to plan out my college path. I’m considering aiming for schools with NCAA Division I Teams. Can anyone shed some light on which colleges have these teams? Also, if you’ve been through the process, any advice on balancing academics and Division I athletics would be a life-saver!

Sure! There are hundreds of colleges across the country that are part of the NCAA Division I. This includes Ivies such as Harvard, Yale, and Princeton, large state schools such as the University of Florida and the University of Texas, as well as mid-size private schools like Gonzaga University and Wake Forest University. The easiest way to find out whether a college is a part of NCAA Division I would be to look under the athletics section of that college’s website.

When it comes to balancing academics and athletics, time management is going to be key. Being a student-athlete is quite demanding. Your academic coursework, as well as your sports commitment, will take up a significant amount of time. You'll want to plan your schedule carefully, making sure to leave time for studying, eating, and yes, sleeping!

When you're planning your classes, be aware that some training sessions may happen early in the morning or late in the evening, so try to avoid early or late classes if possible. Being aware of your energy levels at certain times can ensure that you're not scheduling a difficult class when you're likely to be exhausted from training.

Colleges also usually provide academic resources for student-athletes. This can include priority registration to work around practice schedules, tutoring services, or even academic advisors dedicated to student-athletes. Be sure to take advantage of these resources!

Lastly, bear in mind that, as a Division I athlete, you'll likely have to travel for away games. This takes you out of the regular college environment, so you'll need to develop habits that allow you to be productive wherever you are – on the bus, in a hotel, or in between games at a tournament.

Remember, being successful as a student and an athlete requires a lot of coordination and dedication, but with the right approach and resources, many student-athletes manage to thrive both on the field and in the classroom. Good luck!
