What's the Ohio State Average GPA?

Hello everyone, I'm considering applying to Ohio State and I'm trying to figure out where I stand. Does anyone know the average GPA of admitted students? Additionally, does Ohio State consider weighted or unweighted GPAs?

While Ohio State University actually doesn't officially release data about its accepted students' GPAs, anecdotal evidence suggests it's around a 3.8 on a 4.0 scale. This average signifies highly competitive grades among accepted students overall, although do note that different high schools can use different grading scales, so Ohio State is likely to recalculate your GPA using their own criteria to ensure consistency.

As for your question on whether Ohio State considers weighted or unweighted GPAs - they look at both. Unweighted GPA give the admissions committee a sense of a student's consistency across all classes, while their weighted GPA reflects the rigor of their course load.

That said, course difficulty is a crucial factor even if your school doesn't report weighted GPA, since Ohio State will receive your whole transcript, with the courses you've taken each year, not just your cumulative GPA. So, students who take more challenging courses (like AP classes) and maintain good grades tend to fare well in admissions reviews.

Finally, remember that while GPA is a significant piece of your application, Ohio State, like many other universities, employs a holistic evaluation process, which means the admissions committee also takes into account factors beyond GPA like test scores (if submitted), extracurricular activities, leadership roles, and personal essays. Regardless of your GPA, you want to present a well-rounded application to increase your chances of admission.
