Need advice on Ohio University Admissions

Anyone here applied to Ohio University before? Any specific things they look for in applicants? I'm trying to get all the information I can before starting my application process.

Certainly, preparation can ease up the application process. Ohio University uses a holistic review process which takes into account several different factors. Here's a general overview:

Academic Performance: This is probably the most important factor. You'll want to have strong grades in rigorous courses throughout high school. The average GPA for admitted students tends to be around 3.65. But remember, don't focus solely on getting perfect grades. They're more interested in seeing that you're challenging yourself with your course load.

Test Scores: Prior to the pandemic, Ohio University required either the SAT or ACT for admission but they've temporarily gone test-optional due to COVID-19. As of the 2024-2025 application cycle, this policy is still in place. However, if you choose to submit scores, the middle 50% ACT score range for admitted students is typically between 22 and 28, and for the SAT it's generally between 1100 and 1280.

Extracurricular Involvement: Ohio University looks for applicants who have been active outside of the classroom. They're interested in seeing leadership roles, dedication to a few select activities, and a demonstrated investment in your community or personal interests.

Essays: The personal statement is where you can show your personality and explain your experiences in depth. Ohio University doesn't ask for specific supplemental essays outside of the Common App essay, so you'll want to make sure your main essay is compelling and personal.

Letters of Recommendation: While Ohio University doesn't require letters of recommendation, they do accept them. A strong recommendation from a teacher or counselor who knows you well can add depth to your application and provide insight into your work ethic and character.

Other Factors: The admissions office will also consider your potential contributions to campus diversity and your overall fit for Ohio University. They will review your application with a focus on your personal context and circumstances, including the rigor of your high school curriculum, grade trends, and other achievements.

Take the time to shape every part of your application to showcase your strengths, passion, and fit for Ohio University. Remember, there's no secret formula to getting accepted - it's about presenting an authentic and full picture of who you are. Good luck with your application!
