Any info about the PSAT format?

I am studying for the PSAT and was hoping someone could give me an overview of the test format. I heard it's similar to the SAT but has some differences. Can anyone provide specifics? Would really appreciate it!

Yes, you're correct that the PSAT shares some similarities with the SAT, but it's also worth noting some of the key differences too. In 2024, the PSAT, like the SAT, switched to a fully digital format.

Just like the SAT, the PSAT consists of two primary sections: Reading and Writing, and Math.

In the Reading and Writing section, you will have two 32-minute modules, during which you need to answer 54 questions. This gives you about 71 seconds per question.

The Math section consists of two 35-minute modules, with 44 questions in total. That works out to you having approximately 96 seconds per question, or a little over a minute and a half.

That means the total duration of the digital PSAT is 134 minutes, with 98 questions in total. In the past, the PSAT used to be shorter than the SAT, but they are now the same length since both have gone digital.

Also, different from the old SAT is the fact that there are no more no-calculator sections. You can use a calculator on both math modules of the PSAT now.

Lastly, for a realistic practice test experience, you might find it useful to check out the Bluebook™ app where you can preview the digital PSAT and take a whole practice test. It may be an excellent resource for familiarizing yourself with the format and testing conditions.

Hope this information helps you in your preparations for the PSAT! Good luck!
