Rutgers Engineering Acceptance Rate?

Hi folks, I've got my eye on Rutgers for engineering, but I'm a little anxious about my chances of getting in. Does anyone know the acceptance rate for their engineering program? And what kind of applicant they usually accept?

Rutgers University's School of Engineering is quite competitive. While the university itself has an acceptance rate of approximately 65%, the acceptance rate for the School of Engineering is significantly lower. Although Rutgers does not publicly provide specific acceptance rates for its individual schools or programs, it's generally understood that the engineering program is highly selective, likely hovering somewhere around the 20-30% range based on historical data and student experiences.

Admissions to the School of Engineering depends on a variety of factors, including grades, curriculum rigor, and test scores. A solid foundation in math and science is particularly crucial and participation in relevant extracurricular activities can be a plus. However, the admissions committee at Rutgers will look at each application holistically, so keep in mind your essays and recommendation letters also play a role.

Typically, successful applicants to Rutgers School of Engineering have a high GPA in a rigorous curriculum that includes AP Calculus and AP Physics if available. For the SAT, successful applicants tend to score in the upper halves of the 600s at least for both EBRW and Math sections. But remember, these are just averages and not hard cutoffs - students have been admitted with lower stats, while others have been rejected with higher stats.

While these factors are important, Rutgers also values students who show passion and potential in engineering, so including specific experiences or examples in your essays could further strengthen your application. Good luck!
