Fellow college app warriors! I'm considering applying to USC. What's the admissions process like? Is it really as competitive as people say? I'd love to hear from current students.
USC's admission process is known for being quite competitive. For the Class of 2026, USC had an acceptance rate of approximately 12% which does show how selective they are.
When reviewing applications, USC looks at a variety of factors. Like any other selective school, they'll be interested in your academics (GPA, course rigor, etc.) Additionally, your extracurricular involvement, leadership roles, and community service will also be critically assessed. USC values applicants who demonstrate intellectual curiosity and a commitment to their community.
In terms of testing, please note that USC is still test-optional for the 2024-2025 application cycle. So if you don't have SAT or ACT scores that you think are strong, you won't be required to submit them.
USC is unique in that it also asks for a specific set of supplementary essays in addition to the Common App main essay. These supplementary essays give you a chance to showcase more about your personality, interests, and how you align with USC's offerings and values. So think of those as a chance to shine and make your case!
Lastly, if your sights are set on USC, consider applying via their Early Action or Regular Decision process. You're more likely to receive a favorable decision in these rounds. However, just bear in mind that the Early Action deadline is earlier, so only apply if you have all of your application components in order.
Remember that every admissions process has its own idiosyncrasies, but thorough preparation, starting early, and carefully following the instructions can go a long way! Best of luck!
