What are the GPA requirements for UMD?

Hello folks! I'm planning on applying to the University of Maryland and was curious about their GPA requirements. What sort of GPA should I aim for to be competitive? I'd appreciate any insight you all can offer.

To be a competitive applicant at the University of Maryland (UMD), you would ideally have an above-average GPA. When looking at the most recently admitted freshman class at UMD, the middle 50% of admitted students had a weighted GPA between 4.22 - 4.75 on a 4.0 scale.

Please remember though that a strong GPA is often necessary, but not sufficient on its own to secure admission. It helps to have a rigorous schedule of AP or IB courses if available at your school, as UMD values students who seek challenging coursework. Extracurricular involvement, especially in leadership roles or activities related to your intended major, can also strengthen your application.

However, while a lower GPA might be more of a hurdle, students should keep in mind that college admissions is never just about one number. The whole of your academic and personal achievements will be taken into account in the application review process. If your grades show an upward trend or you had extenuating circumstances that stand out, you should definitely clarify that in your application.

Best of luck with your application!
