SAT Cost—What's the Damage?

Hey everyone, I'm preparing for my SAT and as I plan the budget, I was wondering what the current cost is for taking the SAT? Just trying to be a bit financially aware while I navigate this whole process.

The cost of the SAT, as of August 24, 2024, is $68. This includes the two main sections: Mathematics, and Evidence-Based Reading and Writing. As you might already know, the essay section was discontinued in 2021.

Apart from this, you should also be aware of potential additional costs. For instance, if you decide to change your test centre or your test date after you've registered, there's a change fee of $24.

Also, when you're ready to send your SAT scores to colleges, keep in mind that you can send scores to up to four colleges for free. However, this needs to be done within nine days of your test date. If you miss this window or if you want to send your scores to more than four colleges, it will cost $14 per college.

Remember to budget for potential retakes as well, as it's quite common for students to take the test more than once to try and improve their score.

One last point, if your family is facing financial hardship, you might be eligible for an SAT fee waiver, which can cover the cost of the SAT as well as send score reports to an unlimited number of colleges. You can check with your school counselor for more information about the eligibility criteria.
