AP Capstone vs. IB Diploma: Which one is more valued by colleges?

As I'm planning my junior year schedule, I've found myself stuck between choosing the AP Capstone program or the full IB Diploma. Does anyone know if colleges have a preference? Is one more respected than the other, or should I just go for what interests me more?

When it comes to AP Capstone and the IB Diploma, colleges don't necessarily have a preference for one over the other. Both are rigorous programs that are respected by admissions offices for different reasons. The AP Capstone focuses on research, analysis, and presentation skills, while the IB Diploma is known for its international perspective and emphasis on comprehensive education across subjects.

What really matters to colleges is how you challenge yourself within your high school's context and how you perform academically. For example, if your school offers a multitude of AP classes and that curriculum is strong there, the AP Capstone might be seen in the context of you taking the most challenging coursework available to you. Similarly, if your school is known for its IB program, opting for the IB Diploma might demonstrate your willingness to engage with a rigorous and internationally recognized program.

In essence, you should go for what interests you more and what aligns with your academic and career goals. If you're drawn to in-depth research projects, the AP Capstone might be a great fit. Conversely, if you're interested in an interdisciplinary approach with a global focus, the IB Diploma would be a good choice. Your level of engagement and success in the program you choose will shine through in your college applications.
