Seeking Info on Georgia Tech's Requirements

Hey everyone, I'm planning on applying to Georgia Institute of Technology. I'm unsure about what their specific admission requirements are beyond just GPA and test scores. Can anyone fill me in on what else I might need to consider?

Of course, alongside GPA and test scores, there are several other components to Georgia Tech's application that you should be aware of.

First, the rigor of your curriculum is another academic factor that will be taken into account. Colleges like Georgia Tech like seeing that you've challenged yourself by taking AP, IB, dual enrollment, or other advanced courses when they've been available to you. Basically, the goal is to show that you're capable of handling challenging coursework similar to what you'd experience in college.

Next comes the personal essay. Georgia Tech uses the Common Application and requires a main essay (650 words maximum), as well as one shorter supplemental essay. Currently, their supplemental question is: why do you want to study your chosen major at Georgia Tech, and how do your hopes for the future connect to it? Both of these essays offer you the opportunity to show the admissions committee who you are outside of your academic and extracurricular achievements, so it's important to be thoughtful and authentic in your responses.

For extracurriculars, Georgia Tech doesn't specify a particular number or type that they're looking for. What's more important is the degree of involvement and leadership in the activities you've chosen, along with the impact you've had. For instance, being the president of a club and organizing a major community service event would be seen as more meaningful than just being a member of several clubs with little to no active involvement.

Also, Georgia Tech requires one recommendation letter from a teacher in a core academic subject, so be sure to request this from a teacher who can speak to your abilities and work ethic in the classroom.

Keep in mind that these are just the general requirements. Depending on the program of study you're interested in, there may be additional prerequisites.

Finally, please note that Georgia Tech has reinstated standardized testing as a part of its admissions process. This means that you are required to submit ACT or SAT scores as part of your application.

Remember, every part of your application gives admissions officers a different perspective on who you are as a student, so take time to ensure each component of your application is as strong as it can be. Good luck with your application!
