Cal State GPA requirements?

Hey guys. I've been looking into Cal State colleges and I got confused about their GPA requirements. Is there a standard GPA requirement across all Cal State universities or does this vary between the individual campuses? Anyone who went through the Cal State application process, your help would be appreciated. Thanks!

While each of the Cal State schools generally shares a similar admissions methodology, the specific GPA requirements can vary by campus due to competitiveness, demand, and overall applicant pool. However, the minimum GPA for undergraduate admission to all 23 Cal State schools is a 2.5 for in-state residents and a 3.0 for out-of-state or international students (although students below these thresholds may be considered on an individual basis).

But keep in mind that the minimum GPA doesn't ensure admission. Especially at more competitive campuses like Cal Poly San Luis Obispo or San Diego State, the average GPA of admitted students is significantly above the minimum. Moreover, certain programs or majors may also have higher GPA requirements. So, while the official minimum GPA is the same across the board, the GPA you'll realistically need to aim for to be competitive will indeed vary from campus to campus.

Also worth noting, is Cal State schools use your 10th-12th grade A-G coursework in their GPA calculations, so your Cal State GPA may differ from the one your high school reports. You can figure out your Cal State GPA using the handy calculator available on their website: https://www.calstate.edu/apply/gpa-calculator/

In general, strive to have a GPA as high as possible to increase your chances, especially since Cal State schools do not consider factors like test scores, essays, or letters of recommendation that can sometimes compensate for a lower GPA at other schools. If you're not quite where you'd like to be, though, you can focus on showcasing your abilities through your extracurricular activities, for example through leadership positions.

Good luck with your Cal State applications!
