Looking for Nursing Schools in the South

Hi pals! I'm a junior and I plan to pursue nursing in college. I'm specifically looking for schools in the south (more used to the climate and closer to family). Does anyone have recommendations or could point me towards a resource to search for this? Thanks!

Absolutely, happy to help! There are several universities in the South that have very strong Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) programs.

First, the University of Alabama at Birmingham has one of the top nursing programs in the country. Their school of nursing offers a traditional B.S.N., an accelerated second-degree B.S.N., and an R.N. to B.S.N. path.

The University of Florida is another top choice. Their College of Nursing is consistently ranked among the top nursing schools in the country.

Emory University in Georgia also has a prestigious nursing program. Their nursing school provides a B.S.N. program that consistently performs above the national average for the NCLEX pass rates.

Vanderbilt University in Tennessee offers a highly selective BSN program. After completing the BSN program, students may choose to pursue their Master's in Nursing without applying separately, which is a unique offering.

Texas Christian University also has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) where students can even study overseas for one semester in places like London, Australia, and Chile through their nursing study abroad program.

Lastly, University of Miami in Florida has an Accelerated BSN. Being in Miami gives students immersive, hands-on experience at the University's health system, UHealth.

As you compare schools, make sure to consider factors such as class size, access to clinical experiences, NCLEX pass rates, and opportunities for specialization, which can make a big difference in your education and future career.

For a more comprehensive look at nursing programs, you could use the College Board's college search feature. It lets you filter by major, location, size, etc. and provides quite a bit of information on each college, including nursing programs.

Hope this gives you a good starting point for your search! Best of luck as you forge your path towards a career in nursing.
