What are the admission requirements for Ohio State?

I'm a junior and Ohio State is on my list of colleges I'm considering. I tried looking up their admissions requirements online but got a bit overwhelmed. Can anyone simplify the major points for me?

Sure, I'm glad you're interested in Ohio State! I can definitely provide a breakdown of their admission requirements.

Firstly, and perhaps most importantly, you will need to have completed a rigorous curriculum in high school. This should ideally include four years of English, four years of Math (preferably through Pre-Calculus or higher), three years of Social Studies, three years of Science with lab experience, two years of a Foreign language, and one year of a Visual or Performing Art.

Next, standardized test scores are needed. Ohio State recommends that all applicants submit either SAT or ACT scores; however, as of the 2024-2025 application cycle, Ohio State has a test-optional policy due to the COVID-19 pandemic. If you choose to apply test-optional, Ohio State will not use your lack of scores to penalize you in any way.

As for your application essay, Ohio State has several prompts that you can choose from. The topics typically ask you to reflect on your personal experiences and how they have shaped you, so make sure to take your time and prepare a thoughtful and personal response.

In addition to these, you’ll also need to provide a high school transcript, a $60 non-refundable application fee, and a letter of recommendation. The letter is not required but is strongly encouraged - especially from those who have had direct interaction with the student in an academic setting.

Lastly, you might find it helpful to know that the priority deadline for submitting your application to Ohio State is November 1st, and the regular decision deadline is February 1st.

Remember, all these elements showcase different aspects of who you are to the admissions team. So, while GPA and test scores are important, your personal story and your commitment and contribution to extracurricular activities, community service, or part-time work are just as crucial in the admission decision.

Good luck with your application! You're demonstrating great initiative in starting to consider these matters early in your junior year. Keep it up!
