Perfect SAT Score - What Does It Take?

Hello ppl, I've been hearing the phrase 'perfect SAT score' a lot but wanted a clear understanding. What's a perfect score on the SAT? And is it something I should be aiming for or just a nice-to-have?

From a numbers perspective, a perfect SAT score is 1600, split evenly across two sections: Math and Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, each of which are scored out of 800.

However, I feel the need to remind you that a perfect SAT score is not a requirement for getting into a good college. While a high score can definitely be beneficial, it's not solely about achieving a perfect score. Think about it this way: Your SAT score is only one factor in your college application. Equally as important (if not more so) are your GPA, extracurricular activities, essays, and letters of recommendation.

There's a lot of competition out there and everyone you're competing against for those coveted spots at top-tier schools is likely aiming for a perfect score. The real differentiation comes from the other elements of your application.

It's worth adding as well that many colleges are choosing to go test-optional these days, which means they consider applications even if no SAT score is submitted. This trend has been impacted greatly by the obstacles created by the Covid-19 pandemic, but it's something to keep in mind.

In sum, while a perfect score can be an outstanding achievement, remember it's not the end-all-be-all. It's always beneficial to focus on creating a balanced profile that highlights your skills, interests, and potential just as much, if not more.
