What SAT scores does NYU look for?

NYU is my dream school, but I'm a little stressed about what my SAT scores should be for a good chance of admission. Anyone know the ballpark SAT range they're looking at? Do they have different expectations depending on what school within NYU you're applying to?

NYU is test-optional for the 2024-2025 application cycle, which means that you are not required to submit your SAT scores. That being said, submitting scores is still an option if you feel they are a strong indicator of your abilities and would support your application.

If you are considering sending your scores, you might want to know the range that successful applicants typically fall within. Prior to this test-optional policy, NYU's middle 50% SAT range for accepted students was typically around 1480-1550. These data have been a good general guideline in the past; however, they should not be seen as a strict cutoff, as NYU looks at applications holistically.

In terms of different schools within NYU, it's difficult to specify variations in SAT score expectations. However, more technically focused schools (such as the Tandon School of Engineering) may place a bit more emphasis on the Math section of the SAT. Similarly, if you're applying to a humanities-focused school (like the College of Arts and Science), a strong Reading and Writing score can be beneficial.

It's worth noting that your application is not only about test scores. Factors like grades, courses taken, essays, letters of recommendation, and extracurriculars can play significant roles as well. Good luck with your application!
