Physics Requirement in High School - Necessary?

So I am scheduling my classes for senior year and I am on the fence about taking physics. Is it really necessary for high school? I know some people say it's good for college apps, but I'm just not that into it. Would love to hear your thoughts!

The decision to take physics in high school largely depends on what you're planning to study in college and where you're hoping to apply. For some fields of study and certain universities, having a strong background in the sciences, including physics, can definitely be an asset. For instance, if you plan on majoring in engineering, computer science, or any related field, having physics on your transcript would be beneficial.

However, if your interests gravitate more towards humanities or social sciences, the need for a physics class in your high school curriculum is not as pressing. Of course, taking physics could show that you have a balanced curriculum, but it's certainly not a necessity.

Moreover, it's crucial to understand that academic rigor is a factor considered in the college admission process. Therefore, if you feel comfortable with your course load and believe you can maintain good grades, then taking physics might be advantageous. But if you foresee it causing undue stress or potentially lowering your GPA, it might be wise to refrain.

In sum, while taking physics could be favorable for certain majors and it shows academic rigor, it's not mandatory unless stipulated by specific colleges or degree programs. It's about striking the right balance between rigor, your interests, and maintaining your grades. Just make sure to conduct thorough research on the admission requirements of your prospective colleges to make a well-informed decision.
