ACT Score - A 27 good enough?

Hello everyone! I took the ACT recently and my score came out as a 27. What does this imply for my college applications? Is it a good score or should I plan on retaking the test?

A score of 27 on the ACT is a solid score and is above the national average, which is around 21. That said, the competitiveness of your ACT score really depends on the colleges you're interested in. Some universities (particularly highly selective ones) have average ACT scores for their admitted students in the 30-34 range or higher. On the other hand, many colleges would view a 27 very favorably.

If your desired schools have average ACT scores above 27, you might consider retaking the test. The decision to retake usually depends on a few factors. Are you close to the next composite score? If you're at a 27.5, it might be worth retaking it as you are close to a 28. Additionally, if certain sections were significantly lower than others and you believe you can improve on them with some focused study, retesting might be a good option. Lastly, keep in mind the time and resources necessary for test preparation — balance this with your academic and extracurricular commitments.

However, remember that your ACT score is just one aspect of your application. Colleges consider other components of your application too - your GPA, coursework, extracurricular accomplishments, essays, and letters of recommendation. Just be sure to do some research on the types of scores the colleges you're interested in typically admit. The score in itself is neither inherently 'good' nor 'bad' — it's all relative to your college admissions goals!
