Hey, I'm a junior looking to apply to Fordham next year. I've been trying to find more about their SAT policy. What score is considered competitive? Is it strictly required, or can we submit the ACT instead? Any tip is welcome, thanks in advance!
For the 2024-2025 application cycle, Fordham University still accepts standardized test scores but remains test-optional. You're able to submit the ACT or the SAT if you choose to do so.
As for what is considered a competitive score, Fordham doesn't publish specific score cut-offs; however, looking at their most recently admitted class, the middle 50% of enrolled first-year students had SAT scores between 1330 and 1460. What this means is that 25% of students scored below 1330 and 25% scored above 1460 on their SATs.
So, while having a score within that range doesn't guarantee admission, it likely means you are academically competitive for admission. Remember though, in addition to test scores, your GPA, coursework rigor, extracurriculars, essays, and letters of recommendation will also influence the admissions decision.
Additionally, the ACT is considered equally to the SAT by Fordham. If you choose to take this test instead, aim to score above 30 to fall in that middle 50% range of Fordham’s recently admitted students.
Let's keep in mind that Fordham, like many highly-selective institutions, uses a holistic review of applications. So while test scores are important, they're just one piece of the puzzle. Your involvement in extracurriculars, your essays, and your high school coursework will also play a significant role in the admission process. For example, demonstrating depth in your involvement in few but meaningful extracurriculars, or showcasing a unique perspective in your essays, could make your application stand out.
Hope this helps and best of luck with your application progress!
