Caltech SAT - What's needed?

I've set my sights on Caltech and I know getting in is pretty competitive. What kind of SAT scores are they looking for? Is there a minimum or a 'safe' range I should aim for to have a good shot at getting accepted?

Caltech is indeed a highly competitive institution and does require submission of either SAT or ACT scores for admission. Because scores can fluctuate from year to year, Caltech doesn't have a published minimum SAT score. However, it helps to understand the average test scores of accepted applicants to gauge your competitiveness for the institution.

In general, successful applicants to Caltech typically have SAT scores in the 98th percentile range or higher, equating to scores above 1550. In the middle 50% range, scores typically lie between 1520 and 1570. A score within or above this range could be considered "safe." But, bear in mind that it doesn't guarantee admission since Caltech takes a holistic approach to applications and considers many other factors apart from test scores.

In addition to high test scores, Caltech puts a strong emphasis on science and mathematics prowess. The institution values students who have demonstrated depth of interest and achievement in these fields. These could be through AP course performance, participation in math or science clubs, science and math competitions, research projects, or other related activities.

Also, keep in mind that Caltech's application process includes multiple essays where you can showcase your passion for the STEM field, detail your intellectual curiosity, articulate how you have pursued your interest, and make a case for why Caltech is a great fit for you.

Hope this information helps with your application journey. Good luck!
