How competitive is a 880 SAT score?

Hey guys, I've just got my SAT score back and it's 880. I don't really know if it's considered good or not. Can anyone tell me what colleges I could potentially get into with this score? Feelin' a bit nervous tbh.

An 880 SAT score falls quite low on the scale, but don't let that dismay you too much! Even though it's definitely below the national average, there are a number of factors those number can't accurately reflect, like your overall passion, creativity, leadership skills, or experiences that have shaped you into the person you are today. You're more than a score!

That being said, your score does play a role in the standardized testing aspect of admissions for many colleges, especially those that aren't test-optional. You might be a strong candidate for open-admission community colleges or less selective four-year institutions. Some colleges also offer pathways to admission that don't rely solely on test scores, such as by maintaining a certain GPA or completing certain course requirements at a community college.

If you feel strongly about improving your score, consider studying targeted areas for improvement and retake the exam. There are plenty of free resources available to help you prepare, such as the Bluebook™ app which allows you to take a full-length practice test.

Another thing to note is the growing number of test-optional colleges, which means they do not require SAT or ACT scores as part of their admissions process. They tend to place greater emphasis on your GPA, course rigor, essays, letters of recommendation, and extracurriculars.

Regardless of where you choose to apply, make sure to craft a compelling application that showcases your strengths, interests, and future goals. Remember, everyone has their own path to success, and there's a place for everyone in the world of higher education! Good luck!
