Information on ACT Grading Scale

I feel a little bit lost here. Been trying to understand the ACT Scoring system better but it's confusing. Does anyone have a clear explanation of the ACT grading scale?

Of course, happy to help! The ACT is scored on a scale of 1 to 36, with 36 being the highest possible score. The final composite score you receive is the average of the scores that you get on each of the four sections: English, Math, Reading, and Science. The ACT combines the English section score and the Writing section score into an English Language Arts (ELA) score, and combines the Math and Science section scores into a STEM score. Each combined score is also on a scale of 1-36.

For example, if you score a 30 in Math, 31 in Science, 28 in Reading, and 33 in English, your composite score would be the average of these four, which in this case would be 30.5. This will be rounded down to the nearest whole number, so your composite score would be 30. Similarly, your ELA score would be the average of the English and Reading scores, and your STEM score would be the average of the Math and Science scores.

It's also worth noting the optional Writing section, which is separately scored on a scale of 2-12. Its score is calculated by two graders each rating your essay on a scale of 1-6.

So, while your composite ACT score ranges between 1 and 36, the sections each have their own scoring scale. This makes your ultimate goal a balance of performing well in each section, as each contributes to your composite score. I hope this helps clear things up!
