What are some top-notch Creative Writing Colleges?

Hey everyone, I'm looking for some advice. I love writing (especially poetry) and I'd really like to continue this passion in college. Anyone here know some good colleges that are awesome for creative writing? Maybe those with unique or strong programs? Thanks folks!

Absolutely, happy to provide some insights! If you're looking for colleges with top creative writing programs, here are some you might consider:

1. University of Iowa: Known for its prestigious Iowa Writer's Workshop, the University of Iowa has produced numerous Pulitzer-prize winners and could be an excellent choice to develop your writing skills.

2. Kenyon College: Kenyon is known for its strong emphasis on writing through its numerous visiting writer exhibitions and student-run publications. The Kenyon Review, one of the nation's premier literary reviews, is based here.

3. Oberlin College: Oberlin has one of the oldest creative writing undergraduate programs in the country and offers a creative writing major. They also have an annual Winter Term during which students can undertake intensive writing projects.

4. Columbia University: Columbia offers courses in a wide range of genres including poetry. They also have a thriving literary scene with regular readings and events happening around campus.

5. Middlebury College: This small liberal arts college offers the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference, one of the oldest and most prestigious in the country, during the summer.

6. Stanford University: Stanford's creative writing program is marked by its Stegner Fellowship, which provides 10 two-year professional fellowships annually. Undergraduates benefit from access to this vibrant community of writers.

7. University of Michigan: University of Michigan has a strong program maintaining small class sizes, speciality workshops and opportunities to contribute to or—in some cases—edit literary magazines and journals.

Each of these programs offers unique strengths and opportunities, so I'd recommend checking out their individual course requirements, faculty, and extracurriculars to get a feel for which might be the best fit for you! Remember, a strong writing program tends to foster a rich literary environment overall, meaning plenty of readings, publications, and like-minded peers.
