DePaul Financial Aid - What should I expect?

Hey guys, I'm seriously considering applying to DePaul, but money's kinda tight. Has anyone got any insights about their financial aid program? Do they usually give pretty good packages? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

DePaul University does provide a number of aids to its students. As a matter of fact, about 98% of students receive some form of financial aid, including grants, scholarships, loans, etc. Keep in mind, this could include federal loans, which are considered financial aid, but they're not "free money" — you will need to pay them back.

DePaul does offer several merit scholarships for freshmen, which don't require a separate application. These are based on academic achievements and vary in amount. However, they're pretty competitive due to a large number of the student body receiving them.

DePaul also encourages students to apply for need-based aid by filing the FAFSA. They utilize the Student Aid Index (SAI) from the FAFSA to determine eligibility for federal, state, and DePaul need-based aid. Remember that the sooner you apply, the better chances you have of being awarded any institutionally-based aid, as some of it is first-come, first-serve.

Without specific figures, it's tough to gauge how much you might receive, but you can use the net price calculator provided on the DePaul's financial aid website to get a more accurate estimate based on your family's financial situation.

Remember, every case is different. Factors such as your family income, assets, number of dependents, and more, will be taken into consideration, so it's hard to predict an exact amount.

Finally, don't shy away from seeking external scholarships as well. While DePaul may provide some financial aid, supplementing with other scholarships can also help make your college education more affordable.
