What are SAT requirements for Rice University?

I’ve been considering applying to Rice, but I'm not sure what kind of SAT scores they're looking for. I know it's not the only thing they consider, but I'd appreciate any insight or resources you guys might have.

Rice University is highly selective and attracts many high-achieving students, which is reflected in the test scores of successful applicants. For the 2024-2025 application cycle, Note that Rice University has returned to a traditional testing policy and no longer considers the option to submit an application without test scores.

The average SAT score of admitted students at Rice is around 1510. Breaking it down further, most admitted students have an SAT score between 1490 and 1570. However, keep in mind that these are averages and ranges, and not cutoffs. There are always students who get accepted with scores below these ranges if the rest of their application is strong.

Also, be aware that Rice superscores the SAT, which means they take the highest section score from all your test dates and combine them to form the highest possible composite score.

Remember that while your SAT score is a significant piece of your application, Rice also looks for students with strong high school grades, especially in challenging courses. They'll also consider your essays, letters of recommendation, extracurricular activities, and other aspects of your application.

Best of luck as you prepare your application!
