What are considered the hardest majors in your college?

I'm just about to start applying for colleges and I'm undecided about my major. I was wondering if any of you knowledgeable folks got thoughts on what the hardest majors typically are? I know 'hard' is subjective, but I just want to gauge a bit about workload and complexity... you know. Thanks!

Typically, majors in the STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) are often considered among the most demanding due to the high volume of rigorous coursework, labs, projects, and exams. Majors such as biotechnology, bioinformatics, aerospace engineering, and computer science often require an in-depth understanding of complex theoretical concepts and practical applications.

However, this perception of "hardness" can greatly depend on a person’s interests and abilities. For instance, someone who excels in critical analysis and theoretical concepts might find a Sociology or Philosophy major to be simpler than Physics. But for a person who is good at Math and Science, Physics might be relatively natural to grasp.

It's also worth mentioning that all majors can be equally demanding in their own rights. For instance, pre-med majors (such as Biology or Chemistry) can require extensive lab work and memorization; liberal arts majors (like English, History, or Philosophy) often entail a significant amount of reading, writing, and critical analysis; and Fine Arts majors have high demands for creative output and studio time.

At the end of the day, choosing a major should be about aligning your academic pursuits with your interest areas, skills, and long-term goals. If you're genuinely passionate about a subject, the workload will be more manageable and enjoyable because you'll feel motivated and invested in your studies. You'll rise to the challenges presented because they're in pursuit of your interests and future career goals.

It's also vital to remember that undergrad is not just about coursework. College is a time to gain a breadth of experience, join clubs, participate in extracurriculars, and perhaps work a part-time job or internship to gain industry experience. Thus, even if a major is notoriously 'hard,' if it doesn't allow you the time to enrich your college experience in other ways, it might be 'harder' in the long run.

Hope this provides some perspective! Remember, what might be hard for one person could be enjoyable to another. It's important to choose a major that suits your interests and strengths rather than making a decision based on perceived difficulty.
