Need advice on aiming for a 35 on the ACT

Okay people, I am busting my chops here. I took a practice ACT and ended up with a 30, which isn't bad but I'm trying to optimize my chances of getting into my dream schools. I'm aiming for a 35 to boost my application, what strategies or prep books would you guys recommend to push my score up? Thanks in advance!

Firstly, you have already done brilliantly by getting a 30! Moving from a 30 to a 35 is absolutely possible, but it will require some targeted studies and practice.

For both the English and Reading sections of the ACT, the key is usually to familiarize yourself with the types of questions asked and to learn the way the test makers think. Each section follows a pretty consistent pattern, and the test-makers have their "favorite" questions.

For English, focus on the eight major categories: usage/mechanics (grammar rules), punctuation, sentence structure, strategy, organization, style, word choice, and tone. Get a grasp on these rules and you will see your score start to climb. For Reading, remember that the answers are always in the text - even if it doesn't seem like it. Time management is key here.

For Math and Science, targeted practice of specific types of problems is the best approach. Doing several practice tests will help you identify areas where you're struggling and need extra practice. For Math, a deep understanding of high school Math topics is key: mainly geometry, algebra, and trigonometry. Keep a list of the types of math problems you've missed during practice and review those concepts.

In Science, understand how to analyze and interpret the graphs, charts, and experimental setups presented. Memorizing scientific facts isn't crucial—instead, develop your skill at interpreting scientific data and analyses.

In terms of preparation resources, 'The Official ACT Prep Guide' and the online resources on the ACT website are great places to start since they feature actual past test questions. Further, consider using online platforms for their range of practice materials and targeted advice. Make sure you're taking timed practice tests periodically to track your progress and get comfortable with the test format and timing.

I hope this helps! Good luck with your studies, and keep up the hard work. It'll pay off!
