Art School Rankings - Should I Care?

Hi folks! I'm super into art and I'm looking at art schools for when I graduate, but I'm not quite sure how to gauge them. Do I pay a lot of attention to the rankings? Or is there more to choosing an art school than just that? Thoughts and advice would be appreciated.

Certainly, art school rankings can provide references for certain aspects like reputation and faculty qualifications. However, they might not capture everything that is important to you as an art student. Here are some things I advise you to consider:

Curriculum: Art programs can range from very liberal arts-based to hands-on and technical. Make sure the department offers courses that align with your goals and interests. For example, if you're into animation, ensure the school provides courses and software for that.

Faculty: Look at the faculty who'll be teaching you. Do they have experience or work in specific mediums or styles you're interested in? Will their artistic influences help shape your craft? Faculties who are active in their field can also provide networking opportunities.

Opportunities & Resources: Consider the resources available to students, like studio space, materials, and equipment. What kind of internships, job placement services, or study abroad programs are available?

Community & Environment: The location and culture of the college can hugely impact your experience. Would you prefer a small, intimate setting or a larger university environment? Is the school located in a city that's rich with artistic culture?

Alumni Success: Look at the success of the school’s alumni. What kind of careers have its graduates pursued?

Price: Art school can be expensive, and careers in the arts might not be lucrative right away. Be sure you're considering the return on your investment.

Remember, your success won't solely come from the school's name or rank but from what you learn, the work you create, and the connections you make.
