AP Econ Exam Preparation Advice

Hi, I'm studying for the AP Econ exam and getting a bit swamped. Can anyone give advice on how to approach studying for it? What resources were the most helpful for you?

I've seen quite a few students excel in AP Econ with the right set of study strategies and resources. It's a demanding subject, but it can be incredibly rewarding when grasped well.

As a starting point, you need to understand that economics is a conceptual subject. Unlike maths or science, it’s less about calculating problems and more about understanding principles and concepts—supply and demand, fiscal policy, monetary policy, etc. Hence, ensure that you're clear on these basic principles.

To reinforce your understanding of these fundermental principles, consider looking at real-world examples of economic trends, decisions, or events. Newspapers or credible news websites can come in handy. Understanding how these principles apply practically will serve you not only in the exam but also in your future economics studies.

Speaking of resources, the College Board website is an excellent place to start. They provide past exam papers and their marking schemes which can give you a clear idea of what the examiners are looking for in answers. I also highly recommend using an AP Economics review book; there are numerous ones on the market and these provide comprehensive overviews of the content you will need to know.

Finally, practice, practice, practice! Especially with the free response questions. Time yourself, answer as many past questions as you can and compare your answers with the marking schemes. This will help you get the hang of what's expected and build your exam confidence.

Remember to take it easy and take breaks - studies show that cramming doesn't help and it's more beneficial to study a little each day than trying to cram all the information in at one sitting. Good luck with your preparation!
