Colleges for Artsy People

Hey everyone. I'm super into art and want to continue with it in college. Could anybody suggest some colleges known for their arts programs or that have good support for student artists?

Absolutely, there are several universities and colleges that have outstanding arts programs and cultivate environments supportive of student artists.

Rhode Island School of Design, known as RISD, is one of the best-known art schools, renowned for its rigorous coursework and opportunity to collaborate with neighboring Brown University. Similarly, Maryland Institute College of Art or MICA offers strong programs and the opportunity to take courses at Johns Hopkins.

On the West Coast, you might consider California Institute of the Arts, often called CalArts. It's a place known for fostering innovation and creativity across various disciplines. Notably, it was established by Walt Disney himself.

School of the Art Institute of Chicago, also known as SAIC, is another great option with a wide array of top-ranked programs and a museum on its campus.

For those leaning towards liberal arts colleges, Oberlin College in Ohio has a renowned Art Department and provides opportunities for students to explore other disciplines. Similarly, Bard College in New York has dedicated resources to its arts program, including a $500 million performing arts center.

If you're looking for traditional universities that also have strong arts programs, look into programs at institutions like UCLA, which has a highly respected School of Arts and Architecture, or Carnegie Mellon, which offers interdisciplinary work through their College of Fine Arts. New York University's Tisch School of the Arts is highly regarded, especially its film program if that's of interest.

These are just a few potential options. I recommend checking out each college's faculty, alumni network, and overall curriculum to see which institution fits you the best.
