ACT Scores Accepted by Cornell University

Hi, I'm aiming to apply to Cornell University and wonder what ACT scores they typically accept. Also, do they consider both the composite and section scores? If there's anyone here who got accepted into Cornell with their ACT, your insights would be highly appreciated!

While Cornell University has been test-optional for the past couple of application cycles due to COVID-19, they are requiring standardized test scores again starting from the 2025-2026 application cycle. In terms of the ACT scores they typically accept, the middle 50% range is generally between 33 and 35. This means that 25% of accepted students scored below a 33, while another 25% scored above a 35.

Cornell will superscore the ACT which means they'll take the highest composite score from all test dates. They will also consider the highest individual section scores from all test dates and create a new superscored composite score. Cornell will use this superscore for their process, which is good news since it allows you to focus on improving one section at a time if you decide to retake the ACT.

Keep in mind that while test scores are a significant component in admissions decisions at Cornell, they're not the only factor. Admissions officers also consider your high school courses, grades, extracurricular activities, essays, and letters of recommendation. They'll evaluate your application in a holistic manner, so you'll want to ensure you present strong credentials in all areas.

Also, each college within Cornell might have slight differences in accepted ACT scores. For example, a student applying to the College of Engineering might need a higher Math section score than a student applying to the College of Arts and Sciences. Therefore, it's also useful to look at the expectations of the specific school within Cornell to which you're applying.
