Priority deadlines, what's up with those?

Hey guys, I've been super committed to the college appl process and it's been sorta wild already. I've heard the term 'priority deadline' being thrown around a lot but I'm kinda lost about what it is. Like, is it the last date to get your application in? Does it give you any extra edge if you apply by this date? Appreciate any form of guidance. Thanks!

Hello there! Priority deadlines are indeed important in the college application process. These deadlines are essentially "first come, first serve" deadlines which colleges use for a variety of reasons.

Many colleges set a priority deadline for the submission of financial aid documents, like the FAFSA and the CSS Profile. Submitting these documents by the priority deadline ensures that you will receive priority consideration for grants or institutional scholarships.

In some cases, colleges may use a priority application deadline for applications to specific programs, honors colleges, or for on-campus housing. Meeting this deadline doesn't necessarily increase your chances of admission, but it does mean the admissions committee will review your application sooner, and you could hear back earlier than regular applicants.

Remember to keep track of each college's respective deadlines and to get your applications in as soon as possible. Best of luck!
