What's the Average ACT Score Accepted at MIT?

Hello everyone, I'm a junior mulling over my ACT scores and looking at the possible colleges where I could apply. I'm primarily interested in MIT. Just wanted to get a sense of the typical ACT score for admission to MIT. Are they seeking perfection, or do they accept a range? Thanks for the help, y'all, as I plot out the rest of my junior year and the lead-up to applications!

MIT is one of the most selective colleges in the world, and the admitted students usually have very competitive standardized test scores. For MIT, the middle 50% range for the ACT is 34 to 36. This means that 50% of MIT's admitted students have an ACT score within this range, while 25% scored below 34 and 25% scored a perfect 36.

But remember, while these scores might seem daunting, an ACT score is only one element of your application. A top score will make you a competitive applicant, but it does not guarantee admission. MIT will also take into consideration other factors such as your high school coursework, GPA, class rank, extracurriculars, and essays. An applicant can still gain admission with a somewhat lower ACT score if they have an especially compelling application in other areas.

As you plan out your junior year, aim for the highest ACT score you can achieve, but also remember to balance your study time with other critical components of your application. Pursue your passions, seek out leadership roles or unique projects, and strive to not only excel acadically, but also to demonstrate other qualities that MIT values such as innovation, initiative, and resilience.

Good luck with your preparations! The admissions journey might be stressful, but with hard work and a thoughtful strategy, you will be on the right track.
