Do SAT scores play a huge role at the University of Washington?

Hey guys, so I was wondering, do SAT scores really make or break your application at University of Washington? I've been stressing a lot about this.

For the University of Washington, SAT scores are not currently a required part of the application. While in previous years, standardized test scores were a factor in the admissions process, for the 2024-2025 application cycle, the University of Washington has opted to stay test-optional. This means that while you have the option to submit scores if you feel they enhance your application, not submitting them won't negatively affect your application.

However, keep in mind that other elements of your application are crucial, including your GPA, extracurricular activities, and essays. The college is looking to understand who you are as a person, your abilities and potential, and how you'll contribute to the campus community. They evaluate this through your coursework rigor, grades, activities, engagement with your community, and personal insights shared in your essays.

For example, your extracurricular activities should ideally fall within the top two Tiers of Extracurricular Activities—demonstrating leadership or achievement at the regional, state, national, or international level. Long-term commitment, initiative, and impact are looked favorably upon.

Make sure your essays are compelling, unique, and reflect who you are. Avoid cliche topics like sports injuries or victories, moving schools, and instead focus on unique and personal instances that portray your identity, challenges, growth, or aspirations in a nuanced way.

In sum, don't stress too much about the SAT scores. Instead, leverage other aspects of your application to portray a holistic picture of yourself.
