Anyone know the average SAT score nationwide?

Hello everyone! I'm a junior starting to prep for the SAT. I wanna shoot for a competitive score, but I'm not really sure what that looks like yet. Anyone know the average SAT score nationwide? Thanks!

Hello! As of recent years, the average SAT score for students is around 1050. This number is split between the two main sections of the test: Reading & Writing, and Math. Breaking it down a bit more, the average score for the Reading & Writing section is around 529, while the average score for the Math section is roughly 521.

However, competitive scores can vary widely depending on the schools you're interested in. For highly selective schools, you’ll want to aim for scores in the upper 1400s to 1500s. For more moderately selective schools, a score in the 1200s or 1300s may be sufficient.

Take a look at the middle 50% scores for the universities you're interested in. This can give you a better idea of what previous admitted students scored, and where you should aim to be. Good luck on your journey to SAT success!
