Considering Harvard - Entrance Specifications?

So, I've been dreaming of Harvard for the longest time but not completely sure what they look for in their applicants. Can anyone give me some insight into Harvard's entrance requirements and maybe some firsthand experiences? I'd appreciate it.

Sure, I'd be happy to give you some insights! Harvard University seeks students who demonstrate academic excellence, intellectual curiosity, and commitment to making a difference in the world. Therefore, both your academic record and extracurricular involvement will be crucial.

Academically, Harvard admission officers look for students who have taken the most challenging curriculum available to them. That means enrolling in AP classes, honors courses, or other advanced-level classes if they're offered at your school. Keep in mind that your grades in these challenging classes are also essential. If you can, aim for the top decile of your class.

On the standardized testing side, while Harvard has been test-optional for the past few application cycles due to Covid-19, they will be requiring all applicants to submit an SAT or ACT score for the 2024-2025 application cycle onward.

As for extracurriculars, Harvard looks for students who have shown significant commitment and leadership. The most successful Harvard applicants generally have a few long-standing, deeply involved extracurricular activities rather than numerous less-involved activities.

Applicants are also assessed on their personal qualities as revealed in essays, recommendations, and out-of-class activities. Instead of being generically "well-rounded", successful candidates often have a deeply developed specialty or "spike." These students have proven to be successful in their field and are likely to continue to be successful in the future, creating a positive image for the college.

Finally, letters of recommendation matter a lot at Harvard. They tend to place a relatively large emphasis on your teacher and counselor recommendations, so your relationships with your teachers and counselor are very important.

Remember, every applicant to Harvard is unique and these are just general guidelines. The admission process is highly holistic and individual circumstances are taken into consideration. Good luck!
