How significant is a 35 ACT score?

Feeling a bit antsy here. I just got a 35 on my ACT, and I'm not sure if it's considered a high score. Am I in a good position for college admissions, or do I need to retake the test?

A 35 on the ACT is an exceptional score, placing you in the 99th percentile of all test takers. This score sets you ahead of nearly all students who took the test. It's important to clarify that a perfect score (36) isn't required for admission into top colleges. A 35 is usually more than enough to satisfy the standardized testing requirement at any university in the United States.

If you're aiming for highly selective colleges, however, consider that other aspects of your profile still play significant roles in admissions decisions. These factors include your GPA, your coursework, your essays, your letters of recommendation, and your extracurricular involvement.

Instead of retaking the ACT, it would be beneficial to focus on ensuring these other components of your application are in the best possible shape. For instance, you could work on refining your college essays to make your personal voice and experiences shine, or deepen your involvement in extracurricular activities to demonstrate a passion or specialty.

Again, a 35 is an excellent ACT score, and retaking the test may not significantly improve your admissions chances. Your time would likely be more fruitfully spent on other elements of your college application.
