What's the deal with California State University Northridge admissions?

Hi folks, I'm pretty interested in applying to California State University Northridge and I'm wondering about the admissions process. What's their process like, and what do they prioritise in applicants? Thanks for any insights!

When applying to California State University Northridge (CSUN), students use the Cal State Apply website. The application period is typically from October 1st to November 30th for the next fall semester.

California State University acceptance is generally based on a combination of your high school GPA and coursework. CSUN takes a comprehensive view of your academic history emphasizing grades earned in courses during your final two years of high school and in specific core academic courses completed throughout all four years of high school. They also evaluate the number of years of each subject that you've taken. A strong applicant to CSUN will have completed these academic criteria and also, pursued a rigorous high school curriculum.

Many CSU campuses utilize "eligibility index," which is based on your GPA and your Math and English grades in 10th and 11th grade. Although Cal State Northridge, like other CSU campuses is test-blind for the 2024-2025 application cycle, which means they will not consider SAT or ACT scores at all.

One unique aspect of CSUN admissions is that preference is given to nearby high school and community college students, in accordance with their local admissions area policy, so keep that in mind if you're a local student.

Lastly, you should note that CSUN does not require essays or letters of recommendation as part of their application process.

Other factors, such as first-generation college status or overcoming significant obstacles, can be considered if they are mentioned in the application itself, but focus should primarily be on academic preparation. Good luck with your application!
