Central Washington University Admissions Questions

Hello! I would like to ask about the admissions process at Central Washington University. I'm applying there next year along with a few other colleges. Does anyone have any particular advice or insights about CWU? For instance, how seriously do they take GPA, versus letters of rec, versus ECs?

Central Washington University, like many colleges, considers a variety of factors during the admissions process.

One of the major factors considered in the admission process is your GPA. CWU's average GPA for admitted students is 3.29. They are particularly interested in your performance and improvement over your high school career, especially in core academic classes.

With regard to standardized tests, as of the 2024-2025 application cycle, Central Washington University is test-optional. That means you can choose whether or not to submit your SAT or ACT scores as part of your application. If you feel your scores accurately represent your ability and achievement, you may choose to submit them. However, if you don't think they represent your ability well, or if you weren't able to take a standardized test, you won't be disadvantaged if you choose not to include those scores.

As for letters of recommendation and extracurricular activities (ECs), while they are not explicitly listed as part of CWU's admission requirements, they can certainly help to present a fuller picture of you as a candidate. In terms of ECs, focus on the quality and depth of your involvement rather than the quantity of activities.

Lastly, don't underestimate the importance of your personal statement. It provides an opportunity for you to share your experiences, goals, and how you can contribute to the university community. Make it unique, personal, and memorable.

Make sure to check with the university or their website for the most current and accurate admissions information. Good luck with your application to CWU!
