Best colleges for a Graphic Design major?

Hey there, everyone. I'm a junior that's pretty keen on studying Graphic Design after I graduate. Does anyone know which colleges are considered the best for this? I'm trying to put my list together and I want to aim high. Any advice would be awesome!

Sure, happy to help out!

When it comes to Graphic Design, there are several exceptional colleges that you might want to include in your consideration:

1. Rhode Island School of Design (RISD): Often considered one of the premier art and design schools in the U.S., RISD's undergraduate Graphic Design program is top-notch. Through a balance of formalist study, industry preparation and creative exploration, students are empowered to become multifaceted practitioners and innovators in the field.

2. California Institute of the Arts (CalArts): CalArts offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Graphic Design that emphasizes the areas of print, packaging, signage, and web/interactive design. Beyond these practical skills, their program also fosters a concept-driven approach to help students develop their personal aesthetic.

3. Parsons School of Design at The New School: Parsons' BFA in Communication Design offers the Graphic Design pathway. This program focuses on exploring the sociopolitical and environmental responsibilities of graphic design.

Remember that portfolio requirements can be pretty influential in your application to these programs, so planning and preparing your portfolio pieces early could be beneficial. In addition to these mentioned, it can also be useful to identify programs that are strong in areas you are interested in—for instance, some schools might have a stronger focus on digital design, while others might lean toward traditional print formats.

I hope this helps shed some light and gives a good starting point for your college search. Good luck!
