Hey everyone, I'm currently enrolled in AP Calculus AB and I've been trying to find out about the length of the final exam. Does anyone here know exactly how long it is and how the time is divided between multiple choice and free response questions?
The AP Calculus AB exam is 3 hours and 15 minutes long in total. The test is divided into two main sections: multiple-choice and free-response.
The multiple-choice section is first and it's divided into two parts: Part A, which includes 30 questions that you have 60 minutes to complete. This part doesn't allow the use of a calculator. Then you have Part B which includes 15 questions with a 45-minute time limit, and calculators are allowed for this part. So in total, the multiple-choice section takes 1 hour and 45 minutes.
Following a short break, you'll then move onto the free-response section. This section has two parts as well: Part A includes 2 questions that you'll have 30 minutes to complete, and you can use a calculator. Part B contains 4 questions with a time limit of 1 hour and calculators are not permitted. So the free-response section takes 1 hour and 30 minutes in total.
It's recommended to take timed practice tests to familiarize yourself with the experience of managing your time across these different sections. Remember to practice both with and without a calculator! Best of luck in your preparations.
