Applying to North Carolina State University, Raleigh is an exciting process, and having some understanding of the averages for admitted students can provide valuable context. While the university, like many, follows a holistic review process, grades and test scores remain an important part of the application.

For GPA, the middle 50% of admitted students generally have an unweighted GPA ranging between a 3.6 and 4.1 out of 4.0. Of course, having a GPA closer to the upper end of that range will strengthen your application. In terms of coursework, it's ideal to have taken rigorous classes, such as AP or IB courses, to showcase your readiness for college-level coursework.

If you're providing SAT or ACT scores (keeping in mind that NC State is test-optional for the 2024-2025 application cycle), admitted students have typically scored between a 1260-1420 on the SAT (EBRW+M) or a 24-31 on the ACT. Again, the upper end of these ranges or beyond will make you a more competitive applicant.

Just as important, however, are your extracurricular activities. Try to engage deeply in 2-3 extracurriculars, rather than joining many clubs without much commitment. They are interested in your demonstrated passion or "spike" in a specific field or area. This could be community service, leadership roles in clubs, sports, or even unique hobbies or projects you've undertaken.

Lastly, don't forget your application essays. They give you a chance to communicate your individual story and highlight aspects of your character and experiences that aren't covered by the other parts of your application. Keep the essays genuine and focused; successful essays often explore personal narratives that reveal something meaningful about you.

Remember, these are general guidelines and every applicant brings their unique profile to the admissions process. To increase your chances, a strong application to NC State will reflect good academic standing, the ability to meet challenges, and deep involvement and leadership in a few key areas. Good luck!
