What GPA do I need for Johns Hopkins?

Hi all, I'm currently a junior trying to get a sense of where my GPA should be for competitive schools like Johns Hopkins. Has anyone had experience with this and wouldn't mind sharing the GPA range they look into?

Johns Hopkins University is an extremely selective school, so an applicant's GPA is an important factor in their application. As of the most recent data, the average unweighted GPA of their admitted students is about 3.9. This means if you're applying to Johns Hopkins University, you should strive for your GPA to be at 3.9 or ideally, even higher to be competitive.

That said, keep in mind that Johns Hopkins reviews applications holistically. It's not just about the raw numbers; your entire academic record is taken into account when reviewing your application. They care about the rigor of classes you've taken (APs or IBs, honors level, etc.), the trend in your grades (an upward trend is viewed more favorably as it shows improvement), and how you performed in your coursework, especially in the specific area or major you're interested in.

While having a strong GPA is certainly significant, it's absolutely crucial to also focus on other aspects of your application such as your SAT or ACT scores (Hopkins is still test-optional for the 2024-2025 application cycle), extracurricular activities, and essays, which allow you to share more of your personal story and demonstrate how you'd be a unique addition to their campus community.

Remember, your application is a comprehensive package and each piece supplements and supports the other. Good luck with your applications!
