University of Indiana Admissions

Hey guys, I'm starting to look into my college applications and I've got my eye on University of Indiana. Has anyone else applied there? If so, could you share your experience with the application process? Are there any unique requirements or elements to their application that I should know about? Many thanks in advance!

Hello! Applying to the University of Indiana, which I believe you're referring to as Indiana University Bloomington (IU Bloomington), is generally a straightforward process.

1. Application: IU Bloomington uses the Common App for undergraduate admission. If you're not familiar with it, the Common App is an online application platform that many colleges use, through which you can apply to multiple schools with one application.

2. Transcripts and GPA: You will need to have your high school send your official transcript. The average GPA range for incoming IU Bloomington freshmen is 3.72-4.00.

3. Test Scores: IU Bloomington is currently test-optional for the 2024-2025 application cycle. This means you can choose whether or not to submit SAT or ACT scores as part of your application, depending on whether you feel they reflect your abilities well. In recent years, the average SAT score among accepted applicants has been 1310.

4. Letters of Recommendation: IU Bloomington does not require letters of recommendation for most of their programs. That said, if you feel that a letter from a teacher, coach, or counselor would add something to your application that isn't captured elsewhere, you are welcome to submit one.

5. Essay: There is one required essay as part of the IU-specific section of the Common App. This is your chance to share more about yourself, your experiences, and your goals. You can really display your personality here.

6. Major Selection: The application will ask you to choose a primary and secondary major of interest, so give this some thought ahead of time, particularly because the academic interests you list will help determine your place in the admission pool.

Remember to check the deadlines to ensure you get your application in on time, and best of luck with your application!
