Discovering the SAT Maximum Score

Apologies for sounding naive, but I'm wondering what's the highest possible score on the SAT? I'm trying to set a reasonable goal for myself.

No need to apologize, it's a good question to ask! The maximum score you can achieve on the SAT is 1600. That's an 800 on the Math section and an 800 on the Reading and Writing section. Each of these two sections are scored on a scale of 200 to 800 points, for a composite score that ranges from 400 to 1600.

It's worth noting, however, that achieving a perfect 1600 is quite rare. In fact, less than 1% of all test takers achieve this score. So, aim high, but remember to keep your expectations grounded in reality as well! Keep in mind that colleges look at much more than just a test score when admitting students. Concentrate on achieving a score that falls within or above the middle 50% range of admitted students at your target schools to position yourself effectively in the application process.
