Has the SAT Changed Lately?

Heads up, everyone! I'm starting my SAT prep and I've been hearing rumors about some changes in the test format or scoring. Can anyone confirm this and shed some light on what has been altered recently?

Yes, indeed, there have been some substantial alterations to the SAT lately. From spring 2024 onward, the SAT is now fully digital. This change has revamped the structure of the test quite a bit.

For both the Reading and Writing section and the Math section, the test is now divided into two modules. Each module for the reading and writing sections lasts 32 minutes, with a total of 54 questions to be solved, which equals to roughly 71 seconds per question. Math, on the other hand, consists of two 35 minute modules to complete 44 questions, giving you approximately 96 seconds per question, which is a little over a minute and a half.

The overall time taken to complete the entire digital SAT is 134 minutes, in which you're meant to solve 98 questions. This is quite a leap from the traditional paper SAT, which had a diverse question format and a longer testing period.

Another major change is that the SAT does not include a no-calculator section anymore. You're allowed to use a calculator for both math modules, which was not the case before.

One key feature that was removed completely is the optional SAT essay section, which was discontinued back in 2021. Students no longer have the option to take the SAT with writing.

Please ensure the study material you're looking at aligns with these changes so you're adequately prepared for this revised format of the SAT. Good luck with your preparations!
