Okay guys, slightly stressing here. West Point is my dream school but I just got my SAT scores back and they're not as good as I'd like. So, anyone know what scores West Point typically looks for? Any advice on whether I should retake my SAT or focus on other parts of my application would be super helpful!
West Point, like most service academies, doesn't have a set minimum SAT score. However, to be competitive, higher scores are usually more advantageous. If you look at the middle 50% range for accepted students, you may find that the SAT scores mostly fall between 1230-1450 (math and reading combined), meaning 25% of students have scores below 1230, and 25% of students have scores above 1450.
However, remember that West Point emphasizes leadership skills as well. If your SAT score isn't as strong as you'd like it to be, but you demonstrate strong athletic performance and have shown leadership in extracurricular activities, you may still have a strong application.
That being said, if there's enough time before your application deadline and you believe you can improve your score, it wouldn't hurt to retake the SAT. Keep in mind, though, that the physical fitness component and your leadership potential demonstrated through things like participation in the Boy Scouts, JROTC, or a varsity sport team, play crucial roles in West Point's application review process.
Keep a balanced approach: while trying to improve your SAT score, make sure you're also dedicating time and effort to highlight other strong, standout areas of your application. Good luck with your application process!
