Implication of a 1250 PSAT Score for a High School Junior Like Me?

Hey guys, could really use some advice. I just got my PSAT score and it's a 1250. Honestly, I'm a little worried. Is this a decent score? What kind of colleges might consider this score competitive? And lastly, how can I boost it, if I need to?

Hey! A 1250 is a solid PSAT score. Remember, it's not exactly the same scale as the SAT, even though it feels similar. Currently, a 1250 on the PSAT roughly translates to around 1350 on the SAT, but that's just a general guideline.

As for colleges, remember the SAT is just one factor. But, generally speaking, a 1250 SAT score could make you a competitive applicant at many colleges across the country, particularly at the state system and moderate to low selectivity private schools. However, for highly selective colleges and universities, you might want to aim higher, as most of them have median scores well north of 1300, approaching 1500 or higher.

To boost your score, start by identifying your areas of weakness on the PSAT. Use your score report to examine the types of questions you missed. It's also important to practice, practice, practice. Use the CollegeBoard's resources as well as Khan Academy's SAT prep resources—they're great for targeted practice on specific types of questions. Good luck!
