UMiami Admission Requirements - What do I need?

UMiami is my dream school! I'm working hard, but I really don't know the exact requirements. Any insights into what they're looking for in terms of GPA, SAT/ACT scores, extracurriculars, etc?

To get into the University of Miami (UMiami), there are several elements the admissions committee will look at:

1. Academic Performance: UMiami doesn't disclose a strict average GPA, but generally, successful applicants tend to have strong academic records. The university operates on a 4.0 GPA scale. A high GPA and rigorous course load reflect positively on your application. Remember to take challenging courses like APs if you can, as this shows academic initiative.

2. Standardized Test Scores: For the 2024-2025 application cycle UMiami is test-optional, but if you have strong SAT or ACT scores, it can be beneficial to submit them. As a general guideline, 75% of admitted students scored between 1340–1450 on the SAT, or 30–33 on the ACT for previous years. Although UMiami is test-optional, strong standardized test scores can still be a useful addition to your application.

3. Extracurriculars: UMiami appreciates students who have been involved in extracurricular activities. They're looking for involvement in meaningful activities that align with your interests and passions - whether that's a sports club, volunteer activities, or a part-time job. Remember, schools like UMiami are more interested in the quality of your involvement rather than just the quantity. So, it's better to be heavily involved and hold leadership roles in a few activities, rather than lightly involved in many.

4. Essays: The University of Miami asks for one supplemental essay. This is your chance to showcase your interests and why you are a great fit for UMiami. Make sure to highlight unique personal qualities or experiences, not just generic reasons like beautiful weather or campus.

5. Letters of Recommendation: UMiami requires one letter of recommendation from your guidance counselor and one from a teacher of your choice. Make sure they know you well and can attest to your character and abilities.

6. High School Curriculum: UMiami's admissions officers advocate for a strong curriculum. More specifically, UMiami wants students to have at least 4 units of English, math, and social sciences; 3 units of natural science (with labs); and 2 units of a foreign language.
