Need Some Guidance on SAT Scores

Hey guys, I've been studying my butt off for the SAT but I'm not sure about the scoring criteria. Can anyone explain what's considered a good SAT score and how the scoring works?

The SAT scoring criterion is quite systematic and based on a scale of 400-1600. Here's a basic breakdown:

There are two major sections - Evidenced-Based Reading and Writing, and Math. Each of these sections is scored on a scale of 200 to 800. The total SAT score is a sum of these two section scores, hence the perfect score would be 1600.

As for defining a "good" SAT score, it can be quite subjective and really depends on your specific academic goals and the colleges you're targeting. In general terms, a score above 1200 is typically considered above average.

More specifically, as an example, for more selective institutions like those in the Ivy League, a score within the 1400-1600 range is usually the norm among accepted students. However, for other less-selective institutions, a score in the range of 1050-1200 might be perfectly acceptable.

I should clarify that though SAT scores play a significant role, universities also consider other factors when reviewing applications, such as GPA, extracurriculars, and essays.

Finally, remember that you can retake the SAT to try and improve your score if you're not satisfied with your initial attempt. Your final submitted score can be the highest one you achieve. Good luck!
